My fondest memories as a child would definitely be classroom parties at school! ?

I remember the excitement of making my treat bag, gathering Valentine Cards and candy for my classmates, and receiving them in return. It is a perfect day to let the ones around you know how much they are loved and cared for!

If you’re on the hunt for a couple of books and actives for your February sessions, Somebody Loves You Mr. Hatch and Roses are Pink, Your Feet Really Stink are two books I’m always reaching for! To make these books really come to life, I paired them with my Valentine’s Day Story Sidekick Bundle which you can grab for yourself in my TPT store ??

A Valentine’s Day-themed book that really pulls at my heart! Mr. Hatch is a sad, lonely, predictable, and uninteresting man that receives a Valentine package from what he believes is a secret admirer. This Valentine truly changes him as he realizes that there is somebody out there that loves him. He finds himself interacting with his neighbors and coworkers so much that he becomes a part of their lives too. However, he learns later that the Valentine package was delivered by mistake. This causes Mr. Hatch so much pain that he reverts back to his sad, lonely, predictable, and uninteresting self. His friends, neighbors, and co-workers see the change in him and decide to rally around him to show how loved he truly is.

Activity #1

Gather your glue, scissors, heart printout, and tissue paper (TIP: Dollar Tree is the way to go for cheap and colorful paper). I prepare for this activity by printing out a large heart (like these!) and cutting the tissue paper into small squares. In a pinch, I’ve quickly ripped them into pieces as well. Your students don’t need perfectly planned sessions! On the heart handout, each student takes the tissue paper squares and glues them into the heart in whatever pattern they wish. For me, crafts have to meet the following criteria: quick, easy, versatile, and low prep and this does that!

Activity #2

Mr. Hatch received a beautiful Valentine and your students will get a chance to make one too! Perfect for targeting following directions, verb tense, and describing, ABCya is a website full of educational games. It was well used in teletherapy during my early days of the pandemic. This game allows your students to choose from various different backgrounds, borders, and stickers to make a delightful creation! It also allows you to email the students’ Valentine to their loved ones!

A Valentine’s Day story about kindness and forgiveness. Gilbert has the task of writing nice poems for all his classmates. However, he decides to write unkind Valentines for two of his classmates and sign the wrong names on them. As expected, his classmates’ feelings are hurt and Gilbert’s prank becomes bigger than he expected. With an honest apology, Gilbert learns the importance of kindness.

Activity #1

This origami heart is an activity I pull out EVERY Valentine’s Day! My kids love this easy but no-prep activity that makes a big impact. All you need is paper! In a pinch, I’ve just used scraps of paper but you can also use regular printer paper or colorful construction paper. In the past, I’ve had students make giant hearts and some make TINY hearts, some make only one heart but some make multiple hearts. It is all up to them and the time you have! I’ve had students decorate them and some write sweet notes to their loved ones. You can target a ton of goals including following directions, describing, verb tenses, sequencing, fluency, and more.

Activity #2

More ABCya games that your students will no doubt love playing! Valentine Hunt is a search-and-find activity where you and your students will need to look carefully at each picture and collect the hidden valentines. Valentine Day Puzzle is another fun learning activity that reminds me of the Perfection game I had growing up. A bunch of chocolate has fallen out of it’s box and your students will need to click and drag the candy to put it back in the box as quickly as possible. ABCya games are free (but you can upgrade to ad-free) and can be used as a reinforcer or to target multiple goals such as describing, comparing/contrasting, prepositions, and articulation.
