One of the ideas I took away from ASHA was using the Story Grammar Marker tool by MindWing Concepts with the Social Thinking curriculum. If you aren’t familiar with Story Grammar Marker ( SGM ) you can see a post I wrote about it HERE. It is multi sensory tool to help kids with their narrative and expository language. It makes those abstract tasks, like summarizing for example, a little more concrete and ‘doable’ for my kids. So it would make sense that this tool would help my students with certain social aspects.
Instead of using the tool to go over scenes from a story, it can be used to review a social situation and discuss what should be done. The ‘Critical Thinking Triangle’ is super helpful here. If you know SGM or Braidy ( the K-2 version ) then you know what I am talking about. If you aren’t familiar with it yet, it is the shoe ( kick off event, what got everything started ), heart ( feelings, wants, desires ), and hand (stop and make a plan about what to do or how to solve the problem ). This triangle can be used to review situations, talk about perspective taking, non-verbal language, expected responses, problem solving, etc. Having something tangible is always great too. Using something that kids can see and touch always helps to engage them and make connections.

this is so creative of you, and perfect application for the SGM! Will try this myself.
