Today for, What’s Up Wednesday, I wanted to share with you what Word Nerd Speech Teach has been up to. She has created a new figurative language pack that just happens to be themed after one of my favorite movies, The Wizard of Oz! Keep reading for a chance to enter a giveaway!
This fun themed pack has 30 pages of well thought out activities and explanations for similes, metaphors, idioms, and proverbs. There are 24 simile cards, 24 metaphor cards, 48 idioms cards, and 48 proverb cards.
She provides explanations and examples of what each type of figurative language is for you to review with your students. I always like having something for my students to reference when they are working on a difficult area.
In the simile and metaphor activity, students are given a simile or metaphor in a sentence and asked what they compare. The sentences are all clear and easy to read for the those struggling readers.
The idiom and proverb activities have students matching the idiom or proverb on the with the meaning on the other card. I like these matching games because they makes my students think a littler bit more about the questions I feel.
To add this awesome activity to your speech room visit her TpT store HERE.
I really enjoy the activities from Word Nerd Speech Teach and had to share one more with you 🙂 I am a big baseball fan so Before and After Baseball definitely caught my attention. Before and after is a hard concept for most children with language difficulties to understand. This activity has students following before and after directions with a baseball theme. There are 36 ‘before’ cards, 36 ‘after’ cards, and a visual card for students to use a reference for these concepts. What more could you ask for? To get this wonderful activity click HERE.
