I love to decorate during the holidays, so when I saw some paper holiday lights hanging outside one of the classrooms in my school I got an idea. . . Shades of Meaning Holiday Lights!
Give each student 6 lights. I recommend pre-cutting if you can. Just make sure not to cut off the black tab. Give the student a target word. For each word have the students state three synonyms, with increasing shades of meaning.
If you want to separate the synonyms you can use the included ornaments. Sorry there are no pictures with the ornaments, the idea to use them hit me after I had already made the first strand. Write the target word on the ornament and then the synonyms on the lights. Continue that pattern for your strand. Once students have finished writing their words, they may decorate their bulbs and ornaments ( if you used them ). Have students put some glue on the back of the black tabs of the lights and the hooks of the ornaments. Fold the tabs and hooks over a piece and yarn or ribbon and hang!
