🧠 They don’t have it. Background knowledge, that is. On top of language skills being built in their brains in a disordered or delayed path, our kids haven’t gotten experiences or introductions to concepts.

Someone mentions fall/autumn🍁, your brain shoots down that neural pathway to your fall/autumn file and starts going through pictures, memories, words, stories, all the things you’ve learned and encountered with fall/autumn 🍂.

Our students, for so many different reasons, haven’t had those encounters, heard the words or stories, their file to pull from are pretty sparse. 📂

Not on purpose, but mainly because majority of us were never taught about how critical it is.
