.⁣-⁣Intentionally planning for generalization opportunities is key. One way is to involve classroom teachers in the intervention and it can be done in such an easy way.⁣-⁣I have found the most effective way to be sharing the visual icons I use for narrative language with the teacher for them to use with the class and even doing a mini lesson with the class on how to use them⁣
💡My kids already know it, so they feel like the experts⁣💡 Other kids benefit from it too⁣
💡 The teacher didn’t have to plan the lesson

If the story is purposefully selected, SLPs can focus intervention for some children on basic targets such as using the story grammar elements while encouraging other children to practice advanced targets such as using more complex sentences or complex vocabulary.⁣⁣

Depending on the age and development of the children, SLPs can extend their interventions to promote grade-appropriate academic and social skills.💕⁣⁣

This principle is I feel is one that is the biggest wins to using narrative language intervention within literacy-based therapy. We are also asked to do more with less but this ends up stressing us out and making us feel like failures. This is a way to get a lot of bang for your buck without adding stress to your plate.⁣⁣

Storytelling is a very demanding task for students

Storytelling is a very demanding task for students with language disabilities. Combining visuals/icons for the parts of the story ( the most popular method ) helps students learn cognitive schema. ⁣
-⁣There are many options out there so it is important to figure out what is going to work best for your students. I ended up creating a variation of my own to fit my student’s needs. This is what I teach in Level Up with Literacy Based Therapy:⁣- Character⁣- Setting⁣- Problem⁣- Feeling⁣- Repair⁣- Attempt⁣- Reaction⁣- End⁣-⁣I have a free, downloadable poster of these icons in my TpT store that you can get and share with your kids.
