Happy New Year!  The start of a new year is always exciting but it can be hard to incorporate into speech because it isn’t one of those ‘standard’ holidays.  There aren’t any specific images or colors that go with ‘New Year’, but it’s fun to talk about with our kids none the less.  Here are some New Years activities for speech to start the year on a fun note.

New Years Foldable MiniBook

This is a freebie in my TpT store.  Kids can make their book and write down their own resolutions.  It is a great chance to help them set some goals for the new year, like using their speech sounds in their classrooms hint hint.

Make New Years Hide and Seek Bottles

These bottles are a fun, easy craft and a great way to take advantage of those clearance sales.  You can find some cheap Christmas or new years confetti for practically nothing and party stores this time of year.  Just use a funnel and fill the water bottle with the confetti, rice (or beans ), and pictures or words of targets the student is working on.  If you can’t find specific pictures to cut out and put into the bottle, then have the student draw their own or write the word on a sheet of paper instead and place that in the bottle.  Now, as the student moves the bottle see how many words or pictures they can find.  Students can earn points or race against another student to see who can find the most.

New Years Slime

Slime, this is always a crowd pleaser!  Grab some water, glitter glue ( I recommend silver or yellow/gold for New Years ) and borax and Ta-Da.  Make sure you have something for students to bring their slime home in. I have used ziploc sandwich bags in the past and those have worked fine. You can get the recipe I use HERE.
