My older students were starting to get restless with our card activities and fill-in-the-blank worksheets. They wanted something 'older' and different. I wanted something that would challenge and motivate them. So I thought I would try out an idea I've had for awhile, crossword puzzles. Turns out they were a hit! Some kids have never even done a crossword before so it was a whole new experience. These crosswords are geared towards upper elementary students and middle school/junior high students working on language.
