It’s been awhile since I have shared a new app with all of you, so I am very excited to share the new addition to my iPad.

Multi-syllabic Word Party, from Home Speech Home, is an app that targets, you guessed it multi-syllabic words but also phonological awareness.  It is geared towards kiddos in Preschool to 3rd grade.

This app has 4 different games that allow you to target words anywhere from 2 to 5 syllables.  You can set the number of syllables to target before you start playing.

What are the games you ask? What a great question!

Tap Tap is the first game. A picture and corresponding word are given.  The syllables of the word are also color coded which, at least for my kids, was extremely helpful.    Students have to tap the circle, say the syllables that correspond to it, and then say the complete word.

Outline is the next game.  Students need to drag the picture to it’s shape and then say the word.

Then there is Remember.  This game shows students a grid of pictures and then hides them.  The student must remember where the matches are and say the word using all of its syllables.  You can pick from 8, 12, or 18 pictures.  I liked this a lot because I could set it to fewer pictures for my Kindergarten students and then 18 for my 3rd students who wanted more of a challenge.

Finally we have Say and Slice.  This game has students ‘slice’ or swipe through the syllables as they say them.  When they do this the letters all fall from the word.  Then students need to drag them back up, put them in place, and say the word.

What I liked:

  • Lots of real picture visuals
  • Color coding
  • A good variety of games that target the same skill
  • A variety of syllable lengths to choose from
  • Great for different age levels

In further updates I would love to see:

  • Multi-player function so you can select more than one syllable length at a time
  • The ability to turn the reinforcement on and off

You can grab this awesome app on iTunes for just $3.99, but if you are feeling lucky, Luke from Home Speech Home has generously provided me with some copies to give away !  Enter below for you chance to enter!

  3. This is great for students that have difficulty with articulation and phonological processes. I love that their are various levels, a variety of motivating games, and the color coding is a great idea! This app seems like it would be so beneficial for so many of my students! Thank you!!

  4. I like that this app will help children with multisyllabic words and let them have fun at the same time. This app looks better than another multisyllabic app that I already own.
