This year I will be entering 2015 as new Yapp Guru Expert! So to close out 2014 and ring in 2015, I wanted to share my top 10 apps of 2014. Make sure you click the image below to see what other apps made some Yapp Guru experts lists.
1. Articulate It! Pro by Smarty Ears
Even though this app is not new this year, Smarty Ears made some great updates. There are custom themes that kids can chose from and more homework options. You can read my full review HERE.
2. Sequencing Post Office by Virtual Speech Center
I can never have enough sequencing materials and this app is a great resource to have. Great, clear images that aren’t too busy and plenty of scenes to choose from. You can read the full review HERE.
3. Charades
This app is a fun and free choice to mix it up in speech. You play it like Heads Up or Jeepers Peepers. Tap start and hold your smartphone up to your forehead. Your students have to give you clues as to what your item is. See how many you can before the buzzer sounds! You can check it out on iTunes.
4. Real Vocabulary Pro by Virtual Speech Center
I can never have enough vocabulary materials. This app is great! It uses real pictures that demonstrate the vocabulary words and the words are sorted by grade level. You can read the full review with lots of picture HERE.
5. Let’s Be Social by Everyday Speech
This app has fantastic social scenes that truly applied to my students’ daily life. I really liked the ability to create my own scenarios and quizzes. This allowed me to tailor the app to my students areas of difficulty. The lessons fit very well with the Social Thinking curriculum too. You can read the full review HERE.
6. My Pizza Shop
I stumbled upon this app but my kids love it! They get to make their own pizza as we work on following directions, sequencing, and expressive language. Did I mention it’s free? You can see the mini review idea with the link to download HERE.
7. Phonological Awareness Lab
This app has 7 different activities for students to play. The graphics are engaging and I really liked the science theme, it was fun and different. With so many different activities to choose from your students will get plenty of practice targeting their phonological awareness skills. HERE is the full review.
8. Factory of Categories by Virtual Speech Center
If you work on categories this app is a must ( at least for me )! It allows you to work on categorization skills through different tasks which I haven’t seen offered in other apps. There are pictures supports with just about everything which is fantastic since the app is recommended for kids 3 and up. You can read the full review with pictures HERE.
9. Noise Down
Noise Down is a FREE app that acts as a noise level meter. The free app does have ad space at the bottom that you can pay to remove. You can also pay for additional features like custom alarms. It will sound an alarm when the decibel level gets to high! You can set the decibel level ahead of time too. You can read my post on it with a link to the app HERE.
10. Speech Flipbook by Tactus Therapy
This is a great app to use to anyone ( adults, teens, or kids ) working on articulation, phonology, or apraxia. You can see the full review HERE.
