Halloween is such a fun time of year and there is nothing like a fun Halloween book to go with it. My new book companion is paired with The Hallo-Wiener by Dav Pilkey. This book is about a wiener dog name Oscar, yes Oscar. Oscar’s Halloween starts a little rough, gets a little scary, but don’t worry things are pretty sweet at the end 😉
I tried a few new things with this book companion and can’t wait to here what you all think! So what’s in it you ask?
The are activities for synonyms, antonyms, irregular past tense verbs, rhyming all come with cards to match word pairs ( there are 8 pairs per set ), a sheet to write the the pairs down, a fill in the blank story, and coloring glyph.
There are also verb tense cards and a sorting mat. After students have sorted their words they can use the fill in the blank stories to put their skills to use. Once they complete their story they can color in the dog on the page.
Also included are story sequencing cards with and without visuals. Students can also create a minibook by drawing story events and then sequencing the pages.
There is a page for describing a dog, basic concepts, and two venn diagrams for comparing and contrasting. Don’t forget cards for context clues ( 6 cards ) and questions ( 18 questions ) with and without visual supports.
There is page for students to write a letter to Oscar telling him what they think he should be for Halloween next, because it is never to early to start planning.
Finally there are count and color and do-a-dot pages for reinforcement, spooky sounds for artic, and inference and prediction page, and pragmatics.
