I LOVE fall! The colors, the slight chill in the air, pumpkin everything (yum!). Today, I’m sharing a favorite fall language craftivity. It is super easy and lets your students unleash their creative juices.

All you need are some leaves of varying colors, sizes, and shapes.  I got mine from the bushes and trees in my front yard.  You will also need construction paper, crayons or pencils, and glue sticks. You can use liquid glue, I just prefer glue sticks to keep things tidier.

Have each student choose leaf  and than brainstorm what else their leaf could be. Part of an object?  Part of an animal? This was my example. I don’t why I made a broom, but I looked at the leaf and ‘broom’ popped in my head, so I went with it.

Students then glue their leaves down and draw in the rest of their object, animal, etc. to complete their picture. After their picture is done have them write the name of their item at the top of the page, then words that describe it. I had my students go through the EET ( Expanding Expressions Tool ) and write down the words that came up for the different areas.

Slide33

This student thought his leaf looked like a skateboard.

I hope this activity has given you some ideas. Don’t forget you can also adapt this craft for syntax by having students write sentences about the items or scenes they create!
