Grammar Circus

Grammar Circus is done and I couldn’t wait to share it with you! There are over 200 activity cards in this packet.  This is the second activity in my Circus Series, Receptive Language Circus is up and ready to view on Teachers Pay Teachers store. I included as many pictures as I could so you could get a good preview 🙂


This grammar packet has 4 activities for you to use with your students: pronouns, irregular past tense verbs, subject/verb agreement, and verb tenses.  These areas are some that my new students seem to be struggling with the most.  






Pronoun Peanuts lets your students work on pronouns: he, she, him, her, they, them, we, and us.  Students pick a card and read the sentence. There are a total of 48 cards. Then they decide which pronoun best fits in the blank.  If your students are not strong readers you can read the card to them.  If a student picks a peanut card they get to go again. If you want to make it into more of a game, see who has to most peanut cards or most cards total at the end to win. 







Juggling Verb Tenses is an activity that I am pretty proud of. There are 36 cards for each verb tense, that’s 108 cards total! This activity comes with two levels of difficulty to work on as students progress. The cards with the juggling boy provide students with a sentence, then gives them choices for what the correct verb tense might be.  If the student picks the right verb tense they may keep their card. The cards with the juggling monkeys provides the students with a sentence and underlined verb. They  need to state which verb tense the underlined is, then place it on the correct verb tense mat. Students may write down their responses on the provided worksheet. There are also ‘Dropped Ball’ cards that make students lose a turn, as well as, ‘Ticket’ cards that give students an extra turn. Turn it into a game by seeing who can get the most ‘Ticket’ cards.  





Subject/Verb Agreement is something that a lot of my students have goals for.  There are 30 cards that can be used for is/are or was/were.  Students read the sentence and decide which linking verb should fill in the blank. Then they place the card onto the correct side of the mat. Remind students that is/was are used when the subject is singular and are/were are used with the subject is plural. There are ‘Ticket’ cards that can be used to turn the activity into a game. 

The last section is Irregular Past Tense Verbs. There are 36 irregular past tense verb cards and 12 ‘Pie’ cards.  Students read the sentence and decide which word correctly fills in the blank.  There are two choices per card, one is the irregular past tense form of the verb and the other is the verb with a regular past tense ending.
